Beaded Birds in Haudenosaunee Art at the Roberson Museum in Binghamton

BEADED BIRDS IN HAUDENOSAUNEE ART

Exhibit: BEADED BIRDS IN HAUDENOSAUNEE ART, mounted by Dolores Elliot, will be up thru September at the Roberson Museum in Binghamton.

Haudenosaunee beadwork is a skilled art form that has its origin in New York. Many Haudenosaunee artists continue to work with this medium, inspired by tiny glass beads imported from Europe beginning in the 16th century. Their work features intricately beaded ornaments, pincushions, card holders, wall pockets, picture frames, and other keepsakes that reflect Haudenosaunee ingenuity and aesthetic.

The public opening of Beaded Birds in Haudenosaunee Art, an exploration of the history and culture behind Haudenosaunee beadwork, featuring more than 200 pieces from Haudenosaunee artists, will be Friday, March 7th | 5 PM – 9 PM. $4 General admission from 5 PM – 9 PM as part of Broome County Art’s Council’s First Friday Art Walk.
