Description and Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in our large and vibrant undergraduate Anthropology program at SUNY Cortland. The Department is looking for biological anthropologist who specializes in human evolutionary biology and osteology. This position will strengthen the Department’s anthropology curriculum, as well as its criminology major. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching and be able to teach Introduction to Biological Anthropology, Introduction to Forensic Anthropology, and upper division courses that support the forensic anthropology and archaeology programs. The teaching load is three courses per semester and office hours as appropriate. The Department value’s commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds and a desire to improve access to higher education for all student regardless of background.

  • Will advise 25 to 40 undergraduate students with declared majors in the Sociology/Anthropology department.
  • Will be expected to maintain an active professional, research, and publication agenda. Both SUNY Cortland and the SOC/ANT Department value teacher-scholars.
  • Will be expected to contribute to the department, school and college missions through active service on committees and/or collegial participation in campus governance and community life.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Anthropology (ABD will be considered with completion date prior to appointment). Demonstrated ability to teach Introduction to Biological Anthropology, Introduction to Forensic Anthropology, upper division courses to support the forensic anthropology minor and ANT/ARC majors.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in bioarchaeology and forensic anthropology and who are concerned with issues of ethics and social justice. Geographic area of specialization is open. Research expertise that complements that of current faculty preferred.
