Guidelines for Archaeological Work in New York City

The Landmarks Preservation Commission invites you to attend a workshop about the revised Guidelines for Archaeological Work in New York City. The workshops are offered on September 13 from 10 AM – 11:30 AM and September 26 from 2 PM-3:30 PM in the public hearing room at the Landmarks Preservation Commission, located at 1 Centre Street on the 9th Floor. Each workshop will include a presentation highlighting the primary revisions that have been made and time for questions. Please note that in order to enter the building, one must show a photo ID and go through a metal detector.

The revised guidelines will be released in September and will replace the 2002 document of the same name. The Guidelines will be a reference for both agencies and professional archaeologists to help navigate the archaeological review process in New York City. Please note that the June 2018 draft document was revised in response to many of the recommendations that LPC received.

Please let us know by email if you will be able to join us and, if so, which day you would prefer to come. If you have any questions, I may be reached at (212) 669-7823. Please note that I will be away from August 27-September 4 and you may contact Jessica Striebel MacLean during that time.

Thanks very much,

Amanda Sutphin
