Chenango Chapter Meetings and Activities
Chenango Chapter members generally meet on the first Thursday of every
month from April through December at 7pm and January through March on
the second Saturday at 1pm at the Chenango County Historical Museum on
Rexford Street, Norwich NY.
Spring 2015 meetings
February 14, 2015 1pm
Member slides. This is definitely one of my
favorite meetings of the year. Please bring slides or photos of what
you’ve been up to in 2014. We will have the projector and screen ready!
March 7, 2015 1pm
Michael Beardsley will be coming to talk about some
of his work with the state museum on a rare paleoindian site near
April 2, 2015 7pm
Jack Rossen from Ithaca College will be giving a
talk about his excavations at the Levanna type site. This should be a
great talk, especially for those interested in Iroquois origins and
the “death of Owasco.”
May 7, 2015 7pm
Bruce Oldfield, a geology professor from BCC will be
speaking on recent advances in paleontology, including new findings
about dinosaurs. Folks are invited to bring fossils for identification.
This will be a family friendly event held in conjunction with the
Chenango County Historical Association.
June 4, 2015
Erin Heard from BCC will be talking about her grant
project to map all of the fishing access locations along the Upper
Susquehanna and Chenango Rivers. Bring a rod and reel.
July 2, 2015 7pm
Marshall Rosengrant, the “Chanango Flintknapper,”
will give a flintknapping demonstration and answer questions about
making stone tools.
August 6, 2015 6pm
Annual summer picnic at the Rogers Environmental
Center in Sherburne, NY. Bring a dish to pass. This year’s atlatl
competition will feature Eskimo and Inuit spear throwers as well as
atlatl styles from around the world..
